I have a RS pro-97, I live in spring hill, Kansas. What I like to know is: Is this scanner out dated for my area? With the RS 106 at 249, is this something I should consider upgrading to? Maybe I just need to have this pro97 programmed properly and I have all I need. Thanks

Looking at the database for Miami County, Miami County, Kansas (KS) Scanner Frequencies and Radio Frequency Reference, It looks to be mostly all VHF, So the Pro-97 will work fine for listening to that area.

However, the State of Kansas has a digital P25 network and the Pro-97 will not scan those. If that network isn't fully encrypted, then a newer digital scanner may be something you would want to buy. Someone from your area will know more- so you might try asking around in the Kansas forum here: Kansas Radio Discussion Forum - The RadioReference.com Forums

And by the way - welcome to RadioReference!

Well, if you normally listen to anything in Johnson County, and or KHP, then a digital scanner is a must. Pro 106, or GRE PSR-500. Miami county is really the onlt analog left. All of JO Co is going to the new JoCo 700 P25 system. Olathe, and Lenexa are already there along with all the county and fire dispatch.
