I wanted to mount my Yaesu (Amateur) and Bearcat (Scanner head) radios so that it could be easily concealed, yet within a usable distance while operating the vehicle. I tried mounting the radios in the glove compartment without an extension, however they were just too far away to remain usable while driving. I decided to order 2 Ram Mounts and install them in my glove compartment. Please see the attached animation... The radios can vanish in about 20 seconds! As a bonus, the radios both operate while in the 'hidden' configuration. When extended, the radios are in the perfect position for operation. Has anyone else thought of doing this?

That is one of the best inventions/ideas I have ever seen! Where did you get that bracket from?
That is exactly what I need!

It is easy to see from this pic how I did it... Also attached is a higher resolution of the driver's view.

Thanks guys for your kind words!

Kudos to you. Smart and clever. One of the best ideas if not the best.

Interesting but I would like to use the radio when there are passengers in the vehicle also.

There is a local police department that outfits their detectives' cars with a setup like this, but their cords are sloppy and all over the place... you did a very nice job with this.

That is the answer to my prayers!! Just awesome!

The end to the "park the car and take 5 mins to remove the remote heads, put them in the carry bag" routine that I have to go through when parking the car for any length of time.
To be able to just make it all disappear like that would make all the difference.

A job *VERY* well done! Same goes for your GIF animation too.

Regards, Commscanaus.

Question: Does your vehicle have passenger side airbags? That would be my only concern if you have that extended while driving and if you do have airbags and the airbag deployed wouldn't that make your control heads instant projectiles.

Other than that concern, it looks like and excellent install and good "out of the box" thinking. Also, loved your gifs of the install.

Neat idea. Just wonder, how easy is it for you you to control your equipment from where you sit?

Very nice job. With todays cars its getting harder and harded to find a palce for the radios. Small radios are nice but as we get older they get harder and harder to see, and with fat fingers even harder to use. So anything we can do to make them better is good. This might not work for everybody but I bet somebody uses this install to make one of their own witha new twist.

Ram mounts are good stuff. (Just about up there with Johnny Ray mounts) I've sold them at work with nothing but positive comments. First time I can say I've seen an install in a .GIF, but it certainly looks nice!
