Sir or Mam, I am having trouble with a battery message that keeps popping up to ask me to charge or not to charge the battery. It happens everyday. I seen 2 boxes that come up in the battery selection. Mine says 150 (mAH) time 1 hr Under set charge time. Does anybody know what those numbers should be. My battery charge thing pops up everyday. This never happened before. Can I just take the batteries out and it will stop. I don’t know how to fix the problem. Any help would be aprciated. Thankyou for your time.

When you connect external power to the scanner, such as from your ac adapter, the scanner will always ask if you want to charge the batteries, If you left the ac adapter connected, and turned the scanner on & off through the power button, you would not keep getting that message.

If you are seeing "150mAh" and a one hour charge time, that is the wrong setting.

Press the Menu key
then select Advanced Menu
On the Advanced Menu screen, select "Set Charge Time".
On the Set Charge time screen, you enter the size of your rechargeable battery. One of the more common sizes is 2000mAh, but there are other sizes smaller and larger than 2000mAh.. Enter whatever size battery you are using (all four should be the same size & preferably brand) and press Accept. That will set the charge time for the batteries you are using.

You are better off to charge the batteries in an external 'smart' charger. The charge circuit in the scanner is based solely on time, and does not take into account how much charge (if any) the batteries need. If you leave your AC adapter connected to the scanner, you should be able to say "No" when you get the "Charge Batteries?" prompt & it normally will not keep asking every time you turn the scanner on. But if you are unplugging it each time, then when you reconnect power, it'll ask again.

I have 2500 batteries I just bought from home patrol. One of their warehouses. It has a charge time of 15.5. The charge batteries keeps comming on the scanner everyday. I tried shutting it off, second time I bought batteries in a month. I tried calling home patrol and they told me to change batteries and I did. I keep getting the same message. Do you want to charge the batteries now. I tried yes and no. Nothing is working. Any suggestions would help. I never shut the scanner off. I have tried that overnight and it did not work. Any help would be apriciate.

As suggested, use an external charger and only plug in the USB cable if it's to use Sentinal or copy a recording over.

I've done this for years on my radios that take batteries. Good results.

I don’t beleive he numbers are right.
It charges with 170mA and 1700mAH batteries then takes 10 hours to charge. 2500mAH batteries takes 15 hours so seems to be a logical number.

There's no control over the battery charge state. If the batteries are already fully charged it will still charge them for 15 hours and all energy are only converted to heat in the batteries that could destroy them or at least reduce their life.

Best is to use an external charger, one that have a temperature sensor as when batteries are fully charged they cannot take any more charge and only heats up to get rid of the charge energy.
