The Home Patrol web site works fine from here, here is a link to the Extreme Owners Manual:

http://info.uniden.com/twiki/pub/HomePatrol/WebHome/HomePatrol_OM_V2_Extreme.pdf

Serial driver instructions are on page 5.

unzip the zip files to a folder. You will see only 2 files with .inf extensions. Copy the Vista/Win7 .inf extension to the C:\Windows\System32 directory. Now when you plug the HP into your computer choose the Serial instead of Mass Storage on the HP. Windows will open a window for the driver installation if necessary you can point it to C:\Windows\System32 but usually it is not required and the drivers automatically install ok.

Hope this helps.

Home Patrol Serial Port Driver Help!

I am having trouble with this, too. I downloaded the drivers, but when I try to un-zip them, I can't get it to work. Is there anybody that is able to e-mail the drivers to me without compressing them? I am using the Windows 7 Operating System.

I just emailed the Win7 Driver to the email address you have listed here at RR.com.
Let me know if you don't receive it.

I did receive it and I have it in the computer, but I still can't connect to HP-1 for Virtual Control. It does the downloads fine in the Mass Storage mode, but no luck for the Serial Drivers!

Thank you for the file.

What shows up in your Device Manager for Serial Port devices?
When you connect up the HP-1 and select the "Serial Mode" option instead of the "Mass Storage" mode what happens? It should ask you for a driver (if it does not see one) and then show up under the Device Manger.

Somewhere in Time....
I had issues with this as well. Windows did not prompt me to look for the driver. I had to tell it where to look. Once that was done it worked fine.

Window 8 and 8.1 need to be "fixed" in order to install an unsigned driver.
Even if you are not computer savvy, you can do this!

Just google "unsigned drivers". you should have many explanations that are essentially the same.

I would show you here, but I don't have one in front of me and I might miss a step.

Could you give us a bit more information about this problem?

Does the driver load?

Is it recognized by windows?

If yes to the above two, is the HP-1 recognized by the virtual control software?

You can have all the above working but the virtual control may not work. Some of the reasons are below?

You do know that only certain software applications will give you limited virtual control of the HP-1, like Butel's Arc Patrol however Uniden's software will not AFAIK.

The last time I used my HP-1 in virtual mode was in march and it worked via USB com4 from a USB 2.0 port however this time I had to try several different USB ports and finally found a USB 3.0 port that worked but it worked with USB com6. I have a lot of USB devices and apparently my ports are getting remapped for them, so you too may have to do some searching.
