I've had my HP2 for awhile (June 2017) and recently started getting a battery charge error....I assumed the AA rechargeable batteries were due for replacement so I replaced them with "Energizer Rechargeable AA Batteries, NiMH, 2000 mAh, Pre-Charged" from Amazon...I made sure the scanner setting was adjusted to 2000 mAh but continue to see the same error and flashing red charging light.....any ideas?

Make sure that the charging source you are using (PC USB port or a plug in USB charger) is capable of 1.0 amps or more. It also needs to be a 'smart' charger that signifies to the scanner it can supply the needed voltage and current. Older PC's USB ports were often only 500mAh, which is only half of what is needed to both charge and scan. You can use that to charge, but only if the HP-2 is turned off.

If you can confirm that a charger or source is 1 amp or higher, and is of the correct type, then the other possibilities would be either a bad 'new' battery, or perhaps corrosion in the battery slots in the scanner (or maybe a weak spring, not maintaining good contact).

Setting the scanner at 2000mAh only affects the charge time the scanner would use. The max time is 14 hours. I use a high output external charger for my HP-2, but only occasionally charge the batteries, as it stays connected to the charger, monitoring 24/7. The only need for charging the batteries is if I lost power; having charged batteries prevents an unintended shutdown, which can corrupt the memory card.

Hi Steve,

For some time now, I've been using a multi-USB port flush mount device I installed on my desk that allows up to four (4) USB devices be plugged in.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01NCNZZY9/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

According to the mfg description, each port supplies 2.4 amps and it's worked fine charging my HP2, an iPad Pro, an iPhone7, and most recently, my new SDS100. Very convenient unit!

So just now, I took the charger that came with the SDS100 and plugged it into the wall to test out. Same results within just a couple of minutes being plugged in and on. The battery contacts are clean and the new batteries take a full charge using an external AA battery charger by Energizer.

Thoughts?

PS...Also to add...the charge light flashes after being plugged in even with the HP2 powered off.
