I have seen some for sale on the web....on eBay, I think, for over $600 and up to $700.

If there are some available for $400 to $500, who in their right mind would by a unit for $200 more?

I'm thinking....Nobody....which is why they don't sell them at those higher prices. Unless they find a sucker or someone that doesn't know better.

I found one on Craigslist for $325.00 from the owner.I bought my Uniden Home Patrol HP1 for $375.00 and the seller paid the shipping by Fed-x ground. You can get some great deals on Craigslist if you know how to find them.

this is why I bought my 996xt for $407 its best to shop around. I found it on Amazon for that price where as a ton of places have it for 500 or more! I guess there may be people out there that don't shop around?

The advantage of Fingerhut is that they will sell you something on monthly payments. Of course you have to look at how much you end up paying after finance charges, but in the past when I have purchased from Fingerhut it hasn't been bad. If you don't have the money to go into a store or buy one from mail order that requires the full price at time of ordering, Fingerhut provides an alternative.

....shadcall, the ability to buy something and make payments is why Fingerhut is doing business, but the buyer has to do the math to realize what the final cost is going to be. So if the buyer knows that going in and is OK with it, then it's a good deal for him/her.

Speaking of good deals...I saw (yesterday) on RR classifieds that a BCD396XT with USB-1 cable was sold for $325.00. Son of a b****, if I had only seen that ad the day before...I would have jumped all over that. Shame on me for not checking the Classifieds on a daily basis, but the last few days have been spent trying to accomplish a firmware upgrade on my BCD396T, which I finally did do...but that's another story.

I jus tsaw on Uniden's web site that they have Uniden Home Patrol Hp-1's that are like new for $429.00 and that includes a 90 day warranty that includes parts and labor. Nothing wrong with buying a like new Uniden product. This has been repaired by Uniden and has been checked out before it is sold. You might wish to check this out.

I completely agree with this. Often a refurbished unit gets better treatment then a brand new one and sometimes like new can be "returned products". It's not always that the unit didn't work it's just once opened they can't sell it as new!!

It's an ancient catalog house that's been around forever and made a pretty graceful transition to web-based business. My parents used to order from them in the early 60s. And, yes: their forte is time payments.

That's right...

the Fingerhut brothers, Manny and Bill started selling car seat covers in 1948 and by 1952 it had developed into mail order marketing selling items like dishes, towels, and even electric drills.

Fingerhut had sales of $1.61 billion in 1998, so the business with the funny name is surely a money maker.
