.Nobody....which is why they don't sell them at those higher prices. Unless they find a sucker or someone that doesn't know better.

I have seen some for sale on the web....on eBay, I think, for over $600 and up to $700.
If there are some available for $400 to $500, who in their right mind would by a unit for $200 more?

The advantage of Fingerhut is that they will sell you something on monthly payments. Of course you have to look at how much you end up paying after finance charges, but in the past when I have purchased from Fingerhut it hasn't been bad. If you don't have the money to go into a store or buy one from mail order that requires the full price at time of ordering, Fingerhut provides an alternative.
I jus tsaw on Uniden's web site that they have Uniden Home Patrol Hp-1's that are like new for $429.00 and that includes a 90 day warranty that includes parts and labor. Nothing wrong with buying a like new Uniden product. This has been repaired by Uniden and has been checked out before it is sold. You might wish to check this out.
It's an ancient catalog house that's been around forever and made a pretty graceful transition to web-based business. My parents used to order from them in the early 60s. And, yes: their forte is time payments.
the Fingerhut brothers, Manny and Bill started selling car seat covers in 1948 and by 1952 it had developed into mail order marketing selling items like dishes, towels, and even electric drills.
Fingerhut had sales of $1.61 billion in 1998, so the business with the funny name is surely a money maker.
