On the Indiana Statewide database, under federal, there are a bunch of 160MHz frequencies listed for Hoosier National Forest.

Also here:

For some of them, the license KSD779 is listed, but this doesn't show up on FCC's database.

Are all of these obsolete? Did they move to SAFE-T?

I'm not in range normally to be able to monitor these and verify they're gone, but in terms of the FCC, it appears so.

Is there any action I can take to help clean this up?

Thanks,

Federal [NTIA] licenses generally will not appear within the FCC [Public look up]

The rule-of-thumb for Federal is actual OTA [Over the Air] monitoring to validate current/active use.

Keep in-mind, many NF are changing channels due to NTIA compliance for Repeater, input and simplex use

Thanks, ecps92.

So there is no public database to learn the locations of transmitter sites or power output for them?

I suppose then that the best way to scan is to just scan the full 162MHz-174MHz band while in the forest?

Correct - No public info, only OTA reports.

Yes, 162-174, lock out the NWS, but don't skip the freqs below the NWS :)

Only the Fire stuff for USFS is published as to freqs and tones in the National Field Operations Guide. All the rest is classified and is under control of NTIA not the FCC. There is no public information for Federal freqs etc... Every now and then someone slips up and posts a cutsheet or the like to the wrong server and it gets seen. Other than that its usually all found by folks with scanners searching. Be aware that USFS is starting to finally move to digital in a few areas, and ALL digital for the LE is supposed to be strapped full time encryption. USFS also uses the SAFE-T for ops but not as much as VHF.

If you can confirm frequencies are deprecated, I can mark them as such. I can add new ones as well. Some of the areas around Paoli and that part of the HNF are pretty dead to 800MHz traffic, so I can't imagine they'll completely drop VHF....

Submit what you hear as per usual, and your friendly DB admins will change as needed.

I can confirm that the HNF Northern Zone frequency of 169.9750 analog NFM / PL 131.8 is correct in the database; it's actively in use and has a fair amount of traffic on it. I'm able to monitor the Paynetown and Georgia and Houston repeaters from my location. I can only confirm the output frequency though; I don't know if the input frequency and input PL tones are correct. And I can't confirm any of the simplex channels listed, only the repeaters.
