I am going to be admitted into the HUP for 7 days for major surgery. I have a PRO 668 to bring with me to listen to Philly's P25 phase 2 system. Can anyone confirm that the hospital has moved to DMR and if they're encrypted? I would consider purchasing a scanner that can do DMR and is a handheld for my stay.

If you look it up in the database, it looks like the only thing on DMR is the University police, and they are encrypted. Says the university is in the process of switching to DMR, but most users are still on conventional analog FM, including medical response teams. Nothing specific is noted for the hospital itself.

Good luck on your surgery. Wish I would have thought of this a year or so ago for mine.

HUP Security uses Moto turbo in the 450 Mhz range. That notwithstanding, keep in mind this is an urban environment. As a retired HUP employee, I would NOT bring anything like that to the hospital. Electronics have a way of "walking". You will undoubtedly have sedation and or pain control meds that will make you groggy. Seven days in a hospital seems a long time, but I can't emphasize enough the chance of loosing that radio. I hope your surgery goes well. If I can answer any questions for you about HUP, please contact me by PM.

I realize after looking at the database that the police are DMR encrypted. I was hoping just to monitor the hospital day to day operations as I am there for a week. I pulled every license for the hospital into a spreadsheet and will just program all the channels into a cheap radio. I have a PRO 649 I paid $30 for and it it "walks" I won't be heartbroken.

Hi KC2GVX,

Here is what I have in the Philly Guide for HUP. The University Police are encrypted but last time I listened about a year ago HUP Security was not. But that could have changed.

(Color code = 12; Group ID = 1; Slot = 1)
461.925 R (466.925) University of Pennsylvania Hospital Security 250.3

461.150 R (466.150) University of Pennsylvania Hospital Engineering 173.8

Some other related stuff in the area:

461.475 R (466.275) University City Security d-143
451.8875 R (456.8875) University City District d-723

Thanks Joe!
Do you have any listings for CHOP? While I am there, I would like to listen to them also.

I know I've picked up some maintenance and some other
stuff on:
451.5125 and .9625
I have to look through some papers. I sat home 1 night
and heard dispatch doing a complete system wide radio
check.
I also know that Penn Security uses 462.000 and 467.000 (repeater)

So far what insignia programmed everything you guys told me that isnt DMR and programmed it into a bank. I also put every frequency licenses to HUP or CHOP into another bank and see what becomes of that.
