house check term

I the LYON CO SO i hear depending on who's working an officer doing a "house check" or "property check" or today they're doing a "call number" they always read out a number when they do these checks.

what is that all about? they do this every 20-30 minutes all morning and into the afternoon.

a house check sounds like checking someone's house arrest. but i'm not sure. i been a listener since the 90's and never heard this till the last few weeks.

i hear bar checks at night but I've never heard a house check or property check.

Checks

It sounds like the officers might be doing security checks. In my area, as a courtesy, officers/deputies will check on buildings or properties if the owner requests it. (ie Person out of town asks that officers go by their house to make sure it has not been burned down or broken into) Also, if officers have responded to multiple past incidents of burglary, vandalism, etc. at a location, they may decide to check on it periodically.

In my area the sheriff will do frequent checks on your home while you are on vacation, or out of town on business. You have to let them know ahead of time. In today's housing market they might also be checking vacant homes and buildings from foreclosures. It's not a high priority, but something they do during their normal travels, maybe paying a little closer attention.

thanks for the input guys. i didn't think of those ideas. if i had the guts i'd call the SO and ask them. but i don't know if they would tell me or think i'm nuts.

Yeah in general that is what a property check is. You may also hear "business check" in addition to the "house check and property check" as the OP mentioned.

I believe there is something more here than just the house check of a person on vacation. It sounds more like some kind of special detail where they are doing very regular checks on the place for some reason..

As Mike stated house checks have been done in our area for a long time. But this post of Eric's has me wondering to, why would they do a house check every 20 minutes or so? I agree, that's a heck of a lot of house checks.

Though, if your house is so bad for problems that it needs to be checked every 20 minutes or so, you may want to think about upgrading your security or doing something because it sounds like you have some major problems going on.

House Check

Here in coastal NC, my county sheriffs office will check your house if you are out of the area. I know because I asked about it when I deployed to Iraq back in 07. They check it for like a month at a time or something and have to document it if requested.

Maybe they are checking on someone's residence that has received specific threats. Just a thought.

i should write down all the numbers they say to see which matches. i do hear these checks throughout the morning and afternoon. so i don't know how many properties are being checked. i hear it so much it gets annoying.
