To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hi there... I have a PR1500 I am programming. I am used to programming Icom and Vertex HAM radios, so I am just learning the Motorla - CPS way of doing things as I go along.

My PR1500 has a total of 32 Channels available, currently 1 personality configured, 3 zones configured:

Zone 1: Higways and Business - Total 10 Channels
Zone 2: HAM Simplex & Repeaters - 10 Channels
Zone 3: Public Safety, Inter-Agency and Search and Rescue - 12 Channels

CPS will write the codeplug but the scan doesn't seem to work. As I understand it, I can have a total of 16 channels programmed in scan list? Is that 16 channels per list or 16 channels total for the radio? And those channels can be in different zones?

I'm sure it's something simple I am doing wrong. Thank-you...

Scan lists have to be assigned to the personalities. And you have to enable or disable scanning (or program a SCAN button) to enable or disable it. 16 per list on the scan.

You have to go into every personality and enable the Scan List. I'm assuming you have a button enabled to start/stop the scanning function, so just make sure you enable scan on the personalities you want to scan.

Yes I have the top button assigned to enable/disable scan. So I can have 3 Zones each scanning all of their channels?

But I need to have 3 personalities too? Do I understand this right?

Bit of a mis-quote. With the Astro series portables and mobiles each individual personality would be assigned a scan list for scanning. With the Astro 25 series the personality was just a personality and not a traditionally defined "Mode".

If you only have one personality, add it to your scan list and then select the channels you wish to scan in the scan list settings. If you need another scan list, you will have to add another personality and add some of those previously assigned channels from personality to personality 2.

So underneath Conventional Personality - Scan (tab) I can select None, 1, 2 or 3

I tried None and 1 for that personality... just tested Zone 1 and it doesn't appear to be scanning.

EDIT: Sorry, I forgot to add that I have also added another 2 personalities so I can have 3 separate scan lists.

You also have to assign the channels in the scanlist menu under Scan in the main tree.

Hi, yes okay I have done that for Scan list 1, 2 and 3.

But it still doesn't seem to be scanning? The radio did scan properly when I only had 16 channels in it and the A/B/C switch was set for PL Defeat/zone talk around/Scan .

Could there be something else I am missing?

I don't know... I've tried everything I can think of. 3 personalities, 1 personality, same scan list programmed in multiple zones... this radio does not seem to scan.

It is most definitely a programming issue.

Set a button to select scan.
Under conventional personality, scan tab pick scan list 1.
Under Zone Channel Assignment 1, select personality 1 for each channel.
Under scan list 1, general tab scan list type conventional, priority one selected channel, priority 2 disabled, non priority operator select, designated voice tx selected channel, designated data none. Under the list tab of scan list 1 add the zone and channel of each channel you want to be scanned whenever you turn on scan from zone 1. Repeat steps for each zone if you want each zone to have a different list.

Thank-you! Thank-you! Thank-you!

I was missing the parts about the designated tx and channel select under the scan configuration.

You guys make this the go-to site for HAM/2-Way, mobile, scanning, etc!
