Some (like the OP) want more information displayed. Some say there is already too much info displayed. Uniden simply cannot win in that catch 22. Personally, I think they chose what to display well.
I agree--- I happen to think that given the amount of "real-estate" available on the display, they did a pretty good job. with all the units--- the 436, the 536, the HP-1 and the HP-2. Perhaps sometime in the future, configurable screens will be available, but this is clearly not the time--- Uniden has bigger fish to fry right now.
And let's not forget that there is some flexibility --- perhaps less with the 436 than with the other units, to at least change the font sizes on some of the displays--- you may get a little less information, but the info that you do get is more comfortably viewable at a great distance in the mobile environment.
When I was out driving in a friend's car, with a nicely mounted 536, I noticed him squinting towards the display as he drove. It suddenly dawned on me to hit Channel-Function-9, and of course the display went from the smaller 5 line to the larger 3 line display--- less information, but also less squinting. He was so happy at the little trick that he had overlooked, that dinner was on him.
So let's not forget, we do have a little flexibility-- not as much as some would like, but a little that folks sometimes overlook.
