I am in the process of gathering some parts for a couple VHF high band setups that will use PGA-103s at the antenna. I have notch filters on hand to deal with very strong FM signals. I also have some very strong AM broadcasters in my area - reception through my discone shows very strong signals across the full AM band. I am wondering if filtering of the AM band, or maybe even <10 MHz, would be a good thing to add. How will I know if this is needed? Has anyone tested a similar setup with and without an AM notch (or HPF)?
The PGA-103 datasheet only reports data down to 50 MHz. I am not sure how it behaves <50 MHz.
For the setups I am currently using I either have no preamp (discone w/o amp) or I have already have strong AM rejection through bandpass filtering before the preamp.
