If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

At my camp, we are replacing our Motorola Radius SP50s with Motorola RDV2020s. We have NO idea what the frequency is, only that is it VHF (because of the SP50 design/antenna.) I have a RS PRO-106 scanner, can I just hold the PPT button on the SP50 and get it like that? I did that and I got a few other frequencies not in VHF and my voice can be heard transmitting on those frequencies (but it is supposed to be VHF.) I have found one frequency, 156.1275, but the signal is not as strong (my radio is NEXT to the scanner.) How can I find the frequency and what is the DPL code and how can I find that too?

Thanks guys!

How Do I Program A Motorola Rdv2020 To The Same Channel As Moto. SP50 Radios?

I have purchased a RDV2020 and the frequency is 156.1275 but that can't be programmed in the RDV2020. Why?

If your camp has an actual license to operate the radios, a copy of the license must be posted in the office, near the base radio. Transmitting next to the scanner will overload the radio's front end and lock on any multiple of the freq, so that's useless. You can do a search on the FCC database for the camp, or the name of the owner of the camp. Otherwise, use the scanner to search the band while listening to other people using the radios, until you get a lock on the scanner. Or, you could stick your head in the door of the radio shop that's processing the radios.

How To Find The PL/DPL Code?

Hello,

I am programing new Motorola RDV2020 radios to 151.775 MHz. It asks for a PL/DPL code. I don't know what this is, how can I find it or what should I put? (I can put no PL/DPL code, what would that do?)

Does the radio have a PL code search feature? If not try to program it without the code like running a scanner in FM mode.

PL tones (generically referred to as Continuous Tone Controlled Squelch System – CTCSS) and Digital PL codes (generically referred to as Digital Tone Control System – DTCS) are encoded with the voice audio at all times during transmission, and are used to control repeaters, exclude unwanted or uninvited traffic throughout the Public Safety, business, amateur and GMRS two-way world.

A PL tone is a sub audible tone in the range of 67 to 254 Hz. The FM deviation level of CTCSS tones should be in the range of 500 to 800 Hz. Any one or more of the 50 tones can be utilized by the communications system.

A Digital PL code is digital data or code word, expressed as a three digit octal number, that is transmitted with the voice audio. Unlike CTCSS (Continuous Tone Coded Squelch System) which uses continuous tones below 300 Hz, DCS uses digital data or code words. Each code word is unique and all code words may be used on the same channel without interference.

It is extremely important to use the exact PL tone or DPL code, otherwise other users on your radio network will not hear your transmissions.

Communications planners decide ahead of time how they can minimize interference between multiple users on a single channel, or multiple radio systems assigned to the same frequency. Using PL tones and DPL codes is an effective way to minimize unwanted interference.

Here are the PL tones:

67.0 69.3 71.9 74.4 77.0

79.7 82.5 85.4 88.5 91.5

94.8 97.4 100.0 103.5 107.2

110.9 114.8 118.8 123.0 127.3

131.8 136.5 141.3 146.2 151.4

156.7 162.2 167.9 173.8 179.9

186.2 192.8 203.5 206.5 210.7

218.1 225.7 229.1 233.6 241.8

250.3 254.1

Here are the DPL tones:

023 114 205 306 411 503 606 703
025 115 223 311 412 506 612 712

Alright, on my scanner, I found my radio as DCS: 224. But there is no such thing as DCS: 224. And in the radio programming software it says PL/DPL code and is DPL the same as DCS?

DPL is same as DCS, just different ways of saying the same thing (I think Digital Private Line or Digital Coded Squelch). Are you going to get rid of the old radios at your camp, or will the new ones need to talk to the old ones? If they do not need to talk you can just pick any one of the DPLs in the above table and use that code in the new radios, as long as all are set with the same code they will talk to eachother. The FCC license mentioned in the other post only applies to the frequency, the user can pick the tone type and code.

Did you try to program 224? Maybe it is a valid DPL and was accidently left out of the above table.

DPL Value

I'll bet it's 223 and the scanner just interpreted it incorrectly. 224 is not a valid DPL.

I have merged your 3 threads into one. Please stop making new threads on basically the same topic.

I'm sure that could of been a PM, at least that last part.

No, it was intended to get your attention.

It's alright, wpann. We were all new to this once, and we all still need help from time to time. You just have to follow the forum guidelines and be patient, that's all...
Unlike you, he is not a new member. Or are you an old member that has re-registered? Time to do some looking I guess.
