Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

It seems that there's more than one way to get an Orion into programming mode,
but I don't know them all. And maybe it even varies according to firmware revisions.

I have a low band Orion with a remote head, and all cables, and as soon as you plug
the programming cable in and turn it on, it's in PC PROG mode.

I know you can put SOME Orions into test mode by flipping both rockers this way
and that...but I don't quite know the "exact sequence", only that I can do it.

But another one won't go into self test or programming mode by any trick I've yet
tried.

Any hints, please?

I have seen this problem on some mobiles myself. Follow the steps below and it should work.

1. Turn radio off.
2. Push program in ProGrammer with radio off. Either program or program with LID. It doesn't matter.
3. When you get the failed to program prompt, immediately turn the radio on. The radio should come up either blank screen or PC PROG.
4. Program radio.

Some radios require a 5V sense which for some reason on receives it when you fail out the programming the first time.

Good Luck!!

I believe I recently heard from M/A-Com that ProGrammer is not supported by Vista. I would call TAC and check on this. 800-528-7711 Option 3.

You may try plugging the Radio Interface Box in. A power supply should have been provided with it. This may supply the 5V required. Also make sure the laptop is plugged in.
