I just setup my Kenwood TM-D710A . I have programmed all of my frequencies into the memory channels. I'm curious as to how most people use this radio to get the most benefit of the dual receive? Does it make sense to have vhf on one side and uhf on another? Should I just use one side to monitor a favorite frequency and one side to scan all of my frequencies? Any suggestions? Thanks.

Basically play with it and see what you like. Most 710 users have one side set to APRS so we can't use both sides to scan.

Both ways of using each 'side' of that radio will work just fine. Which would be the most usable/beneficial to you?

I am curious if the TM-D710A will scan both sides at once and also if the TM-V71A will also.

Like others have said, find what works best for you. Sometimes I use both sides for 2m, sometimes I might use x-band repeat, and monitor public safety VHF while on 2m. Whatever is useful at the time.
