We've noticed a huge increase in rants and negative posts that revolve around agencies going to encryption due to the broadcasting of scanner audio on the internet. It's now worn out and continues to be the same recycled rants. These rants hijack the threads and derail the conversation. Hi all.

I was scanning around the freqs tonight here in Memphis, TN and I ran across 380.7250Mhz. It sounds exactly like a typical Motorola control channel.

Unitrunker never decodes anything at from that freq.

I tried programming it into my bcd996T as standard 800Mhz, VHF, and UHF but the scanner chokes and says "OUT OF BAND" when I try to enter the frequency.

Is it possible to program this into the scanner? If not, why would that Motorola-sounding control channel be there?

I'm fairly certain its not a P25 system because the P25 control channel sounds different.. best I can describe the P25 channel is that it sounds like an "idling diesel truck".

Now, maybe it IS a P25 system.. there *IS* a confirmed P25 Dept. of Defense control channel just a bit up the band at 380.025 -- that one DOES sound like an idling truck. :)

Thanks for any info on programming it!

Could be an older type II system, P16 or the like.

Does UniTrunker show no traffic or really is not decoding (shows "no signal")?

Try programming it as P25 NFM.

I can't get frqs in the 380-400 band to work any other way with that radio for TRS's.

Sounds like a 380 P25 system... did you try loading as P25?
I did. If I hold on the system, I get "Finding Ctr Channel"... exactly what you'd get if there was nothing there at all.

Unitrunker doesn't recognize it and decode it at all either.

I think its some kind of placeholder, and that "control channel sound" is really just analogous to an empty carrier.

Interesting that it's so close to that recently-found P25 Dept. of Defense system over on 380.025... :)

Airdorn,

Let's recheck our numbers. The new DOD site is on 380.075, not 380.025 unless you have found a new channel. I see 380.075 from my QTH just fine on a yagi, but nothing on 380.725.
Are you hearing it 24/7?
What part of town are you in? I'm in G'Town and hear nothing.

Yes, 380.075 for that new DOD site.. I think I accidentally typed .025 somewhere for that one.

This new site, 380.725, was LOUD and CLEAR last night and this morning. But it's nowhere to be found tonight, unfortunately.

How did the signal strength of the new 380.725 compare to the 380.075? Which one was stronger or were they the same?

The 380.725 was very clear.. I got 3 bars on my 996T if I remember correctly.

That DOD site, 380.025 is weak for me.. static, random fading, etc.
