I have a BCD426HP scanner. Is it ok to recharge the batteries while they’re in the scanner. Or shud i take them out and only change them in a recharger … im getting conflicting advice on this. Thanks for reading.

I would stay away from charging batteries in the scanner simply because if something goes wrong with one of the batteries it could damage your scanner. Also you can be using one set of batteries while charging another so you will always have a fresh set of batteries ready to go. I have the 436 myself and and I use Panasonic eneloop rechargeables and they work well for me.

A good conditioner/charger is your best choice. I had a scanner back melt due to one of the batteries shorting when charging in the radio. Another good reason is that each battery is condtioned and charge to the same level in a charger. In the radio, they are charged in series and not evenly charged and series charging cannot condition them.

this is not an ad or a sales pitch.
i will post a discontinued model just to show you what to look for.
never get a fast charger or one for camera batteries.
a good smart one will charge them, and if you want, show you the real capacity of each cell.

+1 on using a separate charger, much safer and probably better for the batteries if the charger has some logic to prevent over-charging. Of course in a pinch you could charge the batteries in the scanner, but not recommended.
