I have a new one due to arrive on Monday and have been reading about the horrible loud sounds when turned on. Could someone please direct me to a link or thread which explains how to disable that loud noise every time it's turned on? Thanks!

I've had a 15X for a number of years and I've never gotten any kind of "loud noise" when I turn the unit on. It makes no sound whatsoever until it stops on an active frequency.

Don't we all! What I think you are referring to is the way the BCT8 makes a loud alert sound when turned on. I could never figure out a way to disable it. Fortunately, the BC15XT does not have this "feature."
