• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I have what i believe is a hustler magnet mount that coax cable was ripped out. I bought a new coax cable but im not sure how to wire it up and i cannot find anything on how its wired under the magnet. It has one single stud in the middle that doesnt look to have any spacer. It looks like one single bolt that you run the magnet over to bolt down. There are two nylon spacers on the bolt but how does it wire up? It seems to me like the spacers would be useless if the bolt is solid and has no center or outer connections. Please help me figure out how to wire this thing up. Thank you.

Welcome to the RR forums. You'd be off buying a new unit, they're pretty cheap. I've tried a few times to "rewire" magmounts. The components inside the magmount are delicate and you'll likely break something else if you fumble with it too much

To add to this, weatherproofing homebrew mobile antennas is a challenge. Even if you did rewire it, sealing it up enough to prevent corrosion will be difficult.
I also vote to just bite the bullet and buy a new one from a name brand source like Larsen, Diamond, Comet, Laird. Avoid the cheap china knock offs that appear on Amazon for a super low price.

Without seeing the antenna specifically, I would be taking a shot in the dark to explain re-wiring it. It is relatively easy, I did it with an old Radio Shack 3-section mag-mount. I use it for my attic antenna and works fairly well. I replaced the center bolt for the antenna element in the base and utilized two nuts on it. I crimped a ring connector to the center conductor of the RG-8 I used then placed the ring on the bolt between the two nuts. I then soldered the shielded braid to the magnet where the original wire was. Since I am using it inside, I soldered the RG-8 to a UHF female connector to it. When I get a chance I'll get a picture posted to show you what I did. Hopefully this will help you out a bit.
