Can somebody explain to me, either in depth or just a quick answer, why Motorola trunked sites have neighbours?
Trunk monitoring software tells us which neighbours the site is broadcasting. The database here has a place for us to list site neighbours. But what's the point? What does it do for the trunked system? I know to the scanner user it doesn't mean much.

Yep I'm one of those people who has to understand why something is the way it is

A neighbor site is an adjacent site in a Smartzone system. The mobiles and portables need to know in order to see the signal strength. If the neighbor signal strength is higher than the site it's affiliated with, the mobile will switch sites. It's how Smartzone automatically provides wide area coverage.

Ah! So the portables use the learned neighbour information to determine what adjacent sites to check to see if one has a better signal.

Perfect answer, thanks!
