I'm looking for a right angle connector for the HomePatrol II/I series in order to streamline mobile install.
Does anyone have a source, part reference, recommended solution to help complete the install preference?

I was going to post the same - commercial, home brew, small form factor with a pigtail.

Never seen any and not even sure what to search for.

Search for SMA male connectors. They are available from many sources...Allied, Digikey, Newark, Pasternack, etc. You can get them as just right angle male/female (or any other combination you want) or as cables with pigtails or various other connectors installed.

I did a search for "Mini 4 pin" USB cables with the help of Paul's link, and could barely find normal cables for it, so I doubt you'll be able to find any right-angle cables at all.

4 pin mini B non-standard 1 slot USB

Searching on "4 pin mini usb" "right angle" male and am getting the straight connector cables - sometimes associated with cameras... These connectors are mislabeled most times... the PC board mounted females are available.

The uniden port is a single slot 4 pin mini usb... from there they seem to get mislabeled as mini-b but they are really "non-standard" mini-b

Uniden BCD396XT non-standard “USB” cable and a source of connectors. | Daniel Reetz

Semi-standard USB: S1MP3 Wiki - Temp:USB cables

I think the choice Uniden made in using these is a poor one. Having disassembled several HP-1's it seems a mini-DIN or even a 4 conductor 3.5mm jack would have been a better choice - there is room enough. I've broken these on a BCD436HP with very little use, fortunately warranty covered. With a new HPII arriving next week, I was hoping to not void the warranty by having to wire in a GPS cable - had to do this with the HP1 - but since the HP1s started acting up with local reception.....

Thanks for the replies... I'll post any success.

The connectors are Hirose Electric. Mouser Electronics has them part number MQ172X-4SA-CV(50). They are the straight ones but the actual connector part is very small and you could possibly build your own 90 deg angle housing. Please let us know if you find some premade cables with 90 deg angle connectors.

Bought some of the bare 4 pin Hirose connectors few weeks ago direct from China on Ebay and of all the spec sheets I have seen , all I can say is they do not exist.

Best I could say is put one together without the plastic boot and bend the metak strain relief at an angle . Then hot glue and heat shrink, still not much help.

Sometimes I wished that they had used a 4 conductor 1/8inch min plug, at least they have straight and angled.

Thank you for the Mouser tip! Just bought a few receptacles and connectors... I'll try to fashion something out of the combo. On the HP3, Uniden has got to improve upon this design =

I had thought about doing something similar to what Dave posted. Make 2 and I'll take one:) My eyes and soldering skills are not what they used to be - but I can still wield a heat gun and hot melt glue :)

Ha! I'm equipped with magnifying headset, brightly lit soldering station, radio lab and surgical skills... and yet I increasingly make some faith-based soldering decisions.... Hence I bought 10 of each gender hoping to get at least one pairing right! LOL

The female 4pos is on 4 week back order. It worked out to around $53 for 20 pcs.

For the HP-2 it looks like we will need a standard mini-usb right angle for the power supply, too.
Pretty sure I saw those while looking for the non-standard 4pos... Somewhere... Lord, why didn't I think of that earlier?

I should just re-wire all the plugs into the rear on a HP1. It stays in the car 100%. Or find a better mounting in the limited space i have.

Have a -2 coming - but no real Ph2 in my area yet.

I have the BCD436HP and it has the same Hirose connector for the GPS. I am putting together a small GPS module that will connect direct to the 436 on the Hirose connector and have its own USB cable for power. Both the 436 and GPS will plug into an Anker Astro E5 external battery. Should make a nice portable setup.

Good on you guys for sharing!
You are taking the same path as myself...
No obtrusive ugly in a mobile mount in an X5.

In theory if I can get the cables tucked in behind, I can run through dash without any dangles.
Found and purchased a custom mount to which I'll attach the HP-2 mobile bracket... It suspends tastefully from the dash with close to flush fit.

No room for the 536s without a dash pod in this vehicle.
The 436 is not suited to my taste for mobile use.
The HP-1s just stopped decoding control channels in my area (P1 simulcast switched off)
So the HP-2 is my only hope for most professional looking install (passes my young Colleen's test).
And I love the color touch screen for mobile HID features.

What mount is that? I use the Uniden HP1 mount and a Ram mount.
