To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hello all,
Well I got my HT1000 in the mail today. The battery was dead when I received it, so I stuck the radio in the charger. It has been in the charger about 4-5 hours now and I pulled it out just to see if it powers up but it did not power up, so I pulled out the volt meter and stuck it to the positive and negative contacts on the battery and I did NOT get a voltage reading. The meter just read zero. Is this a problem with the battery? Or could it be it has just not charged? Also when the radio is in the charger there is a blinking read triangle. I dont know if this is the rapid charger or slow charger. Any help would be grateful.
Thanks Evan KC2USH

Thats what I was thinking but as I have never had an HT1000 before, I just wanted to throw it out there and see if there is anything I can try.

Also I am unsure if the radio has been programmed or reset to default settings. I dont know if this makes a difference or not.

Programming to default wouldn't affect the battery like that as it should still turn on and make a bunch of sounds. My charger (rapid "shoe" type) has the red triangle as well and it lights steady when charging then switches to a solid green light when complete. So, blinking means the battery's bad.

Do you know how to read the date code on the Battery? There is a 3 digit number. The first digit is the last number of the year (the other two digits are the week in the year) it was made. If it is more than a couple years old it may need to be replaced.

The only way to know for sure is to run it through a battery maintenance system.

I suspect it is more than a few years old. I left it over night on the charger and woke up with it still blinking the red triangle. Thanks for the help. I will be buying a new battery.

Best thing to do is to buy a new battery. Those are available at one of the many online battery supply places like Battery Universe. One can always use that second battery.

I once brought a Jedi battery to Batteries+ & was told they couldn't rebuild it. However I showed them a Saber battery & was told that type of battery they could rebuild. In situations like this I shock the battery with 12 volts from a power supply for a few seconds, & then the battery will take a charge. It won't work great, but it will work for a while. The bottom line is the Ht1000 battery life is 600 cycles..doesnt matter how long its charged..you remove it from charger use it for 2hrs or 10hrs and put back on charger that 1 cycle so depending on how often its used two years or 6 years??? and if feasible try a mobile car jack, looks just like a real battery for your cigarette lighter port??

good luck to all.

600 cycles? who told you that? I have HT1000 batteries that are 3-4 yrs old that are used on a daily basis. If they are used properly they can last years.

When I was having our HT1000's serviced @ Teltronic in Baltimore, The salesman stated "that the service life of the standard NiCad Batteries was 600 cycles which may be 2 years or 6 depending upon usage".. I had a specific question he had a specific answer that seemed reasonable, so why should I doubt it. They are the professionals?? His statement seems to fit right into yours of everyday 3-4 yrs?? So why all the negativity. I was just trying to provide some insight to what was already stated. On the flip side maybe you can provide some literature stating otherwise. Hence, why i asked him (teltronic) the question in the first place.

I use my MTS2000 on a daily basis (6+ hours a day) and the battery has a 2008 date code on it ( I bought it brand new through Motorola in 2008). True, while it doesnt last as long as it once did when BRAND new, it still ticks by a full work shift.
