• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I need a battery for my HT1250. It's been a few years since I had to purchase one. I don't really want to go OEM because the radio wont be used all the time. It will be used for 8-10 hours when it is used. What is a reliable after market battery manufacturer? I am hoping for nickle metal and 2000 mAh or higher.

I have had luck with ExpertPower. They have some nice batteries. I also recommend Li-Ion over Ni-Mh because of the weight and battery life. Just a personal choice. Good luck

Update:

Picked up a battery on Fleabay made by EBL. For $19.99, I got a lithium ion battery that is 7.4v 2500mAh. The radio has been on steadily since 8am this morning. That’s 13 hours and counting with 3/4 of the battery life showing on the lcd. I TX a few times and played with the back light. For the price, I’m very happy right now. Here’s a link that has it for $2 cheaper:

I've had really bad luck with aftermarket NI-CD batteries.

There's a seller on fleabay, called Arrowmax, who sells a high quality Ni MH battery for about $14. I put these on most of the radios I send to my customers. No complaints to date.

I’m familiar with arrowmax. I went this route because it was under $20 and the battery pack is lithium ion 2500mAh rated. The guy I got my 1250 from recommended them highly and now I see why. I turned on the radio at 8:00am yesterday with the battery freshly charged. I turned it off at midnight when I went to bed with 2 bars still showing on the battery meter on the LCD. That is 16 hours straight on a single charge for under $20. There’s no way I can complain about that...
