Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Programming my new HT1250 today. Got the current codeplug and saved it. Created a new one and wrote it to the radio. Worked fine until just now. It's giving me hundreds of error messages.

Where should I go? I have the origonal codeplug backed up, but can't write it to the radio.

"Can not program radio. The source and target radios are different frequency models." it says now. After working for hours.

When attempting to read from it:

"RW region size can not be negative"
"CgToDb : Unable to set value returned by transform UnpackRegionalId in slot 6317 of object Radio Information"
"Entry does not have field with ID 2728"
"PassII- Unable to transfer block Phone System from CpDb to Db"

Is it bricked? do I have any final options like firmware etc?

Take the known good codeplug, open it in CPS, and look at the Invalid Fields window, it will tell you what is wrong with the CP and how to fix it.

A synth unlock, however, is a different problem, and may require a trip to Motorola or to a dealer to fix.

There are a few repair services on ebay who claim can fix the problem. They have plenty of ebay feedback to proof that they are a legit service.

I'm just holding off because Motorola tells me that it's a hardware problem.

I would avoid those services, but that's just me. I would much rather have Motorola do a guaranteed, warrantied job than one of those crackpots... :)

Anywho, are you sure it is a synth unlock? Are you sure it's not an EEPRM CS ERROR? An EEPRM CS ERROR represents a codeplug error. It can usually be fixed just by reading the radio with the newest version of CPS (R06.11.10), which can correct that error for you.

What are the errors the radio is displaying. Based on your description your troubles started after a programming session. Hardware very seldom goes bad in those radios, I have a CDM-1250 that I have reprogrammed over 500 times (it's my test radio for finding frequencies) The radio has wigged out a few times with EE checksum errors.
With the EE checksum error you will get all kinds of other errors when you read the radio like region code you can get other weird errors too. Synth unlock is because the tuning info is also corrupted. The software will not allow an invalid codeplug to be loaded, so checking the archive file won't help, and based upon what you are saying, you won't be able to load it back in anyway. I don't use 6.11.10 I have other means of correcting the EE checksum error, but if this is the error you are getting I would try it.
Beyond that, no harm no foul if you use someone other than Motorola do a reset if the radio does indeed have an EE checksum error. If they fail to repair it don't pay for the repair and then send it to MotoMexico. If the radio is still under warranty send it back with a note that it failed during a firmware update. I have sent a lot of them back with that one, and got a complete new board installed.
