Huntsville-Madison Co 911 - Alabama's Largest (video)

Not sure if any of you have seen the video or not:

http://www.hsvcity.com/police/Audio_Video/911_center_overview.wmv

Our police, fire, sheriff, and EMS dispatch is all combined under one roof. This in a county of 300,000 residents....no small feat!

Only agencies not in there are university police dispatchers, airport police/fire dispatchers, state troopers, and the small towns in which the officers do not have a dispatcher - they answer the phone themselves or get calls from the sheriff.

That's a great video.

I had wondered how info was getting to a dispatcher from the 911 operator. I could detect that it was coming in at real time, like text'd or something, by the tone or delay in there dispatch call, or the stand by for nature. Thanks for posting that.

Thats an impressive system madison county has. The only frequency i think i can hear in that area is 155.700. I think its the sheriff, i live in blount county.

That's Marshall Co's frequency. Madison County's busiest freq. is 154.875 Sheriff and 154.385 County Fire.....both are quite busy. I know I can pick them up in Cullman on my car radio, but Blount County is probably pushing it...but worth a try.

Ok. i hear the blount county sherrifs inter-operate with them when there is an incident near the border of blount and marshall counties. i think thats somewhere near snead, alabama. both frequencies you listed are used for agencies near me so i am sure i would only hear sporadic transmisions under perfect conditions, but i will listen for them.i only have a handheld with rubber dukki, and i live in a tin torpedo, i mean a mobile home. There is a lot of skip from morrow, georgia fire dept coming in on blount countys fire dispatch 158.835 in the last few weeks, the dispatcher tried to communicate with them but they didnt respond. I'm sure once every radio goes digital, skip wont be as much as a problem. I wonder if its the sunspot cycle or something else doing it. is there any skip on any of huntsville area channels?

We used to hear Walker Co. Georgia and Littleville PD on our 154.875 sheriff freq. Haven't heard them in a long time, though.

When I was a dispatcher, we would constantly hear downtown Nashville Metro PD on 155.010 (Alabama Net) but they have since switched to 800. Plus, we don't use the net as much anymore since long distance is cheaper these days.

Our county Fire freq 154.385 actually gets some skip from the Collierville, (Memphis) area through the repeater at times....usually just atmospheric. I have heard Chicago Fire Dept. on there before!!!

Here is Chigcago's info....their output is our input with same PL!

153.77000 153.95000 KSC711 R 156.7 PL F-2 Englewood (South) F2
