FYI---The FDNY is deploying to North Carolina with a team of 82 members in support of Hurricane Florence. New York Task Force 1 is comprised of FDNY and NYPD members trained to respond to catastrophic events, and is managed by NYC Emergency Management. Chief Downey says, “We have 19 different disciplines on this team. We’re capable of doing any kind of technical rescue. We’re probably going to be in a water environment and we have at least six boats to go down there. All of our personnel are water trained, many of them are boat operator trained, and we have quite a bit of experience on this team. They’re going to pre-position us and get us in the area of where the storm is going to hit, and then they’ll move us to wherever we’re needed.” Coordinated and overseen by FEMA Federal Emergency Management Agency, USAR New York Task Force 1 specializes in urban search and rescue, disaster recovery, and emergency triage and medicine.

Im Not Sure what the Radio Frequencies are Going to be--It Might be FEMA Frequencies to be Used

In Charlotte, heard lots of discussion on VIPER COML (51551) today discussing radio cache distribution. Some mention of some towns and counties requesting sets of talkgroups to be assigned for their use.

Just made a favorites list consisting of "non-regular" VIPER talkgroups such as statewide talkgroups, Introp, radio techs, EM, DPRR etc.

Have not heard anything yet, but its still a little early. Should I expect to hear much of anything here in the Triad area or am I too far west? I'm not sure what sites traffic will normally be broadcast via. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,

Mason - KM4SII

They use the FEMA issued UHF radios in 406-420mhz and are encrypted. FEMA now encrypts all the USAR team communications. Each team has their own Comm specialists as part of their team who handle this.

IMAP Talkgroups are being used heavily. I have been hearing 51825 and 51830 quite a bit lately. Possibly due to the evacuation traffic on I-40.

Holy smokes. FEMA is encrypting radios in a time of emergency and all usar teams are using encrypted comms.
Nothing like adding a huge potential failure in a time of need.

Morning traffic heard...

NCPHSWIDE TG 52051 with discussion of thermometer calibration.

Heard Ferry operations check-in and discussion of comm plan Ferry North TG 51807 is primary emergency channel, all RIDs heard were in the 20400xx range. FERRY CENTRAL (not seen in database, maybe TG 51808, Ferry Center) would be used as talk around channel.

Hearing units that were on VIPERCOMML doing radio tests on Viper HOTEL 2

SWFIRE and SWCALL starting to get more active
