• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hi,

Do Hyera radios have the ability to serve as TCP/IP network adapters when connected to the PC, similar how Motorola does with "IP Peripheral" functionality?

Do they have USB to Ethernet capability? Also, devices that have BT, do they have BT PAN (Personal Area Network) profile?

To better illustrate, here is a video showing how one can use 2 Motorolas on two computers and exchange (very sloooooowly) TCP/IP packets between them as if they are connected via (slooooooow) ethernet.

Also, if yes, is Hytera interoperable with Motorola? Asking for an emergency comms service my Ham Radio club is organizing...

There is a very reasonably priced second hand PD785G with a good battery on offer, and I'm considering to buy it...

I don't have much experience with data over Hytera but there is something.
an example here

The new HM785 also have an IP connect which actually lets an IP network be generated linking the two using 'clarity transmission'

Also, if yes, is Hytera interoperable with Motorola?
Yes and no. Data comms probably no. DMR is a standard so voice comms are. Manufacturer extras like trunking and motorola DCDM are not. Manufacturer specific encryption is not compatible but AES is. Text mesages and other signalling like radio check can all be compatible.

If its for a ham club then you should be designing it to be interoperable I would imagine as it will need to support Moto, Hytera but also cheap chinese like anytone?

Hytera's 10 bit encryption should be still compatible with Motorola's enhanced encryption I have XPR radios talking to 782G radios through RD-982 repeaters networked.

Not sure about this radio but I did construction in a place with thick metal walls, radio signals weren't penetrating it well-enough and they set up our pd982u1 to work via cheap access points they placed in every room. I have no idea how but it worked, as well as or even better than the regular digital radios, actually, much better than analog as well. Just my $0.002
