I am looking to find programming for the various law enforcement agencies while traveling from Ct. to Va. next month. I plan to take I-95 and the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel into Virginia Beach, VA. To this end I would like to post the same to each state along my route but wonder if this may be a violation of some duplicate posting rule. Hoping someone has what I am looking for. I am running the SDS200. I will wait for a reply concerning my duplication question before I try another state.

The only valid response regarding duplicate threads would come from a moderator. I'm not a moderator, however my hunch is that if you created a thread within each state asking for information about the stretch of I-95 within that particular state, you should be fine. Don't just copy/paste the same post over and over again.

Reference to Virginia - where do you plan on getting on Route 13 to come down to the CBBT?

Based on your routing wouldn't need the Bridge Tunnel, as it's way out the way. Should be going I95, to 295, I64 and maybe 264. Bridge Tunnel would be way longer.

For Maryland enter the Statewide TRS First. Need State Police Barracks M JFK Highway, R Golden Ring, and A Waterloo.

Also need MDTA Police Tunnel Command for the Ft. McHenry Tunnel in Baltimore on I95 aAso on First.

Depending which way you go on the DC Beltway you will need Barracks Q College Park and L Forestville on the Prince George's TRS for PG PG County.

If going into Mongerny County on the DC Beltway you need Barrack N Rockville on the Mongerny TRS.

All State operations are going over to First, but the ones still on a county radio system most likely won't change before the trip.

Virginia State Police will on their VHF TRS named STARS.

Delaware State Police have gone encrypted based on posts in the State forum.

I should have stated this as well. Unless you specifically want to drive through the Eastern Shore of MD and VA to the CBBT, it'll be much quicker for you to take I-95 south to I-295 south to I-64 east to I-264 east to VB.

Quicker maybe, but not shorter. Not that either variable concerns me. I’ve run the route about half a dozen times, mainly to attend military air shows at NAS Oceana. So it’s mostly traditional to do the bridge tunnel route.

(I’ve got pics from the bridge/tunnel when the USS New York passed through on my last trip! Seeing that particular ship meant a lot to me. I’m a retired Firefighter, and at the time my Son was in the Marines when the towers came down. That event has been pointed out to me by others as the beginning of a depressing mood change in myself… and I tend to agree. I didn’t loose family or friends but to this day it sure feels like I did.)

I should also note I had a perfectly good scanner program for the trip prior to 9/11… but there’s been some hardware changes and I’ve lost some files in the process. Thank you for the input.

I would use a GPS with my scanner and not worry about whether you got all the LE agencies. Set your service types and let the scanner do the work.

Yup, that’s my fall-back plan. I liked to hard program what I could on previous trips. After a few trips both to Daytona Fl and Va I had collected a respectable amount of data which I used to enhance what I call my “hard” programming.

you have a radio with the entire database of the U.S. in it and if you use a GPS and set up what services you want to hear, you will hear them.
no fuss, no muss. and i believe you can set up the GPS thing to warn you of trouble.
and if you have to change a highway due to any problem, the rdio just changes and you can still hear stuff.

“ Bridge Tunnel would be way longer.” Time wise or distance wise? All the trip maps disagree and advise the CBBT… not that it matters, as I like to stop off in the Dover, kinda traditional…

That's what I do for the ham radio when I travel. Using RepeaterBook and other sources, I program in repeaters along the way. Like me, you seem to think planning a trip is part of the fun of traveling.

And by the way, I'd rather be set on fire for 15 minutes than travel more than 5 miles on I-95.

Good points. As I have mentioned, I’m one for hard programming. I do thank you for your suggestions. I’ve used that mode on one of my Daytona trips. I’m retired and I’ve got quite a bit of time on my hands which I like to use optimizing my scanner settings.

Using the interstates keeps you from having to deal with all the stop lights, small towns, and varying speeds on Route 13. If you don't mind those things, then by all means, use Route 13. For VA, you'll want VSP Division 5 (Chesapeake) on STARS, it will cover all of the regions you'll be in.

When I'm on road trips, I like to keep moving at a consistent pace, so my bias is always towards the interstates.

No, you wouldn’t. Take it from me. It’s true when they say burning to death is the most painful way to go. But yea, I-95 is a close second!

Depending on the time of day you come through, going through the DC area on I-95 isn't necessarily a pleasant or quick experience. I wouldn't blame you if you take an alternate route.

Now that it’s understood I’m going the CBBT route regardless, and there’s no offerings of ready made files, I want to thank you all for your input. I will consider this thread closed.

I agree with Boxalarm187 as just use the Interststes. For me in Eastern Baltimore County it's way out to use US13 and the Bridge Tunnel, plus the extra toll monies
