• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I am extremely hot right now!

I bought what I thought was an MTS2000 on ebay. The guy had 100% rating and he even emailed with some concerns I had asked about. Well, I find out that his idea of expedited priority shipping from Florida turned out to be 11 days to my home here in CT. (should have been 3 according to Postal Service) Then I finaly get it today (paid on the 11th mind you) and as I look at the radio, I realize this jackass sent me an MT2000 not an MTS. Thinking maybe I was wrond, I tried to read it with the CPS and my fears were confirmed. I got the following message on the screen "Unsupported Model NOT an MTS2000". Needless to say, I am FURIOUS like you have no idea. The radio on the pictures is NOT the same one I received. Now I have to go through Ebay ect... to fix this as this guy has not returned any emails. So I guess I am stuck with this radio for now. I am so DONE with ebay........Just so I don't totally go bonkers, If I am getting that from the software, then it's true right? It's not something I am doing wrong?

I won't get too worked up, in the big picture it means nothing. If you bought on ebay then you used paypal. They will refund your money (including shipping) if the seller won't. I know it takes a little time, but you haven't lost anything. That is what makes PayPal worth using, even though everyone hates paying the fee.

Yup. Sounds like ebay. I quit ebay years ago. It just became a hassle to deal with and I only used them for the convenience. After being inconvenienced a few time that was enough for me. Bye bye ebay.

Lou, I appreciate that and out of the respect for you and this site, I will not rant. What I really wanted to know anyway was if I was doing something wrong or was the software right. I found out that it IS in fact an MT2000. I will deal with it away from this site. If there was only CPS for the MT2000 I would be in hog-heaven. I have no access to a DOS computer and at my age, I don't seem to have the patience that DOS requires....LOL..Thanks again Lou!

Never mind the frustration about getting something other than what you ordered... Only the seller and eBay can fix that. But as to a programming computer, I use an older toshiba laptop, a 486, $25 from a thrift store. So, really, you DO have access, and DOS is super easy to deal with. It's worth it to learn, if for no other reason than to play with some of the wonderful older radios out there that sell for CHEAP!

I am trying to understand something, so I am hoping those of you with more experience can shed some light. The back of the radio has the sticker which has this model #: H01RDH9PW1BN. Now, when I put the radio in RF test mode, it revealed a different model #: H01SDH9AA7AN. Then, it showed another number:402ATG5139 and then R01.35. Can someone please explain the difference in model numbers and what those other numbers mean so I have some reference to give someone if I decide to sell this thing? Thanks!

H01RDH9PW1BN - MTS2000 UHF B1, 160-Mode, Front Display, Full Keypad, 4- to 1-Watt
H01SDH9AA7AN - MT 2000, UHF B2, 16CH, 4- to 1-Watt, Front Display

Looks like the controller was replaced in the radio.

The H01SDH9AA7AN would indicate a 450-512 split radio. It was either hacked to an S split or the frame on the back came from a different radio as H01R... is the 403-470 split. The 402ATG5139 is the serial number (the TG meaning April 1993) and the R01.35 is the firmware revision. Sounds pretty old to me considering it's a Jedi.

Thank you both for the information. I could not make heads or tails of this. I really do not want to keep this radio so depending on what happens with ebay, I may just turn around and sell it. It works as it should, I just don't want THIS particular model. At least I will have some TRUE information to give the buyer...Thanks again both of you.

Ebay Refund

When I tried to get PayPal/Ebay to issue a refund since the seller would not reply to my emails, PayPal/Ebay told me that I had to ship it back to the seller, and send them the tracking #. They would issue a refund once the package reached the destination. Well the seller used a fake shipping address, so I didn’t have a place to send it.

All correspondence with PayPal/Ebay was electronic. They would not provide a live person for me to speak with.

I wish you the best of luck.

Not to defend the seller... But sounds like the label on the back ID's the radio as an MTS, its likely he looked it up online as there is a model decoder for it online, and the listed it as such. Yes its also possible he tossed this parts radio together to, one never knows.

As for getting refunded, shouldnt be too much trouble from what i have seen lately. It's a buyers world on there now. Just lie to Paypal and they refund and screw the seller. As a seller that has been screwed a few times on there by people filing false claims i can tell you it happens more than you think.

The last one that happened, which i am still fighting, they refunded the buyer without any proof of his claims or a return of the item and let him keep both the item and my money.

As an ebay seller, i think all sellers need to unit somehow, a website where one can report problems with buyers, kinda like a feedback list, which other sellers can then read and then add that buyers username to their blocked bidder lists.

Why? Because sellers cant leave a buyer a negative feedback anymore so we dont know who is out to screw us either.

That is the serial number and firmware version. Does the serial number match the one on the sticker?
It does indeed sound like the radio guts thrown into a different case and or frame. Good luck, keep all of us apprised.

No Longer Hot!!!!!

I certainly have learned a lot about the MT/MTS series radios since this purchase. I owe it all to you guys on here. I am watching another MTS2000 III on ebay. This guy gives me more confidence since both the case model numbers and the electronic model numbers match.
ONE Motorola MTS2000 MTS 2000 Model III MCS2000 - eBay (item 300495018871 end time Nov-24-10 11:16:58 PST)

I think I will have better luck this time around. What I have and continue to appreciate is all the guidance and knowledge I have received on here. Regardless of what happens with this first radio, it's the new information learned that I am most glad about. I cannot thank you all enough. I am much better informed about this model than with the prior purchase. My sincerest thanks to everyone who responded and to Lou for being so understanding. I would not have learned all of this if this had not been posted.
