Not to be mean, but that uniden software wont work for you......I have been involved in scanning for a long time....that software is just not user friendly. I recommend that you purchase BUTEL software for the radio, it will show you and work with you.

Personnaly, i think you need a degree to work any uniden. No doubt they are good, but programming was a pain, i dont even use my BC8 trunktracker anymore, the trunked systems never worked correctly.

I just bought a bcd-396t. Don't let those guys scare you. The uniden software is pretty straightforeward. You already have a general knowledge of scanning. I did it on my own so far. My suggestion is to download the uniden software and the radio's owner's manual in pdf format. Read through it and play with the software. See how they programed the pre-installed systems. I love mine.

Another vote of confidence for the Uniden software... More than worth its price!

Agree. Besides, seeing systems in a more linear form will help you understand how Uniden's memory works.

Play with the UASD software - it's more than adaquate. If you find you need more, then get Butel.

Here's an easier to read version of the manual, by the way:

Perhaps when you're older, you'll get that degree and/or figure out how to program it ...

Policemonitor - ignore the negative posters and consider the source(s). A lot of these guys are a joke and would rip on Mother Theresa if given the chance. They do make for good entertainment fodder, however. But you've been around long enough to know that.

Download the software. It's part of what you paid for.

The BCD396T is a great product. UpMan is also very helpful on these forums.

WJF, you're right, i havent been around long enough to get a good feel of the Uniden and its programs, and i shouldnt be grading it badly. I have been exposed mostly to RS scanners and that is what i was comfortable with, so when i tried Uniden, i didnt give myself a chance to learn it correctly and therefore it wasnt working right. So yes, Uniden may be excellent, i just haven put forth the time to learn the scanner and how to program it right.

That's what I use and I just got a BCD-396T about 2 wweks ago and it works great. Not alot of pre-made files out there yet to just download and then plug-and-play but if peoplee would start posting them in the yahoo groups uniden 396t group we could expand the database of files. I love the software though. Makes the scanner a breeze to program. Better than doing it by hand and wearing out the jog wheel.

This is, IMHO, the best Forum out there. Someone here (with far more experience than I) will surely be able to help. I've found this Forum invaluable.

Send me a PM and I'll send you some files to get you started. Let me know if you prefer ARC or UASD files.
