I got my pro-97!

If you didn't see my post in the radio shack thread, I just got my pro-97. I bought one on e-bay but the squelch didn't work. Unfortunatly the guy is going to give me a fight about returning it. Anyway, I bit the bullet and bought a new one at RS yesterday. I'm sure going to have lots of questions. Mfuller1950 sent me an easy to read manual, so that will be a big help! Thanks again Mfuller.

How are you doing on programing? A quick thought, you may want to go to the RR database and print out or write down Ocean, Monmouth county frequencies, also OC Sheriff, State Poice you may want. Figure out what you want in the scanner, put it on paper so you can come up with a plan. I have uniden scanners so in 1 I have my setup like this. Hope this helps.

I got the cable but as far as trandfering the data into the banks I guess it will be trial and error. I haven't started yet I have to wait for good time when the baby is taking a nap and all is quiet (cause right now he is trying to climb up my leg while i'm writing this.

The guy didn't mention parts just that it was a floor model and he said it powered up. I don't know what POS means (sorry-newbie) I paid $80.00 and sent it back.

Do yourseolf a favor and spend the extra $$ for the programming cable (available from Radio Shack) and Don Starr's software (http://www.starrsoft.com/software/win97). It will make you programming much easier especially if you're new to the hobby.

BTW POS means Piece of Sh*t!

Oh- I thought POS was some scanner term-I should have known. LOL

OK guys! I just bought and downloaded the starrsoft software. I guess I just start punching in frequencies? I think i can figure it out i just dont want to make any stupid mistakes.

I don't know to much about the pro97, but I don't think you will be able to scan digital communications, like Manchester, Lakewood, Point Beach, Toms River and Berkeley. I'm sure someone who knows the unit will verify this.

Very true.The Pro97 will NOT do digital.However ,it will do the Ocean County Trunk System,NJSP "C",and plenty of other OC,stuff.
While I was down in T'River with my '97 I used the RS 800 mhz.ant.it worked great for everything!Some many Repeaters and the NJSP tower in T'River,plus flat land without mountains,made Rx.ing great.
Not sure what you will need to get JCPD

I believe my account is set up for me to receive email, left click on my avatar, over on right, send me email, it will give me your email address, I have a pro97 file set up for you to get started, police, fire, first aid, oc sheriff, state police, you have to edit, add, delete what ever you want to it, only to give you an idea that you can see, that may help. Email may help not to tie up the forum with long messages. It's up to you, only trying to help!
