I HAD A UNIDEN NEW BC125 AT SCANNER THAT I BOUGHT TO MY GRANSON FOR CHRISTMAS GIFFT, ALSO I AM 78 YEARS OLD AND CANNOT FIND THE INSTRUCTION IN THE MANUAL IN PLANE ENGLISH TO UNLOCK ALL THE CHANNELS AND BANKS. CAN ANY BODY HELP THIS "VIEJITO" FROM OLD MEXICO? I ALLREADY TRY EVERYPOSSIBLE THING: PRESS ["HOLD"] THEN..I PRESS AND HOLD [L/O]....THEN APPEARS IN THE DISPLAY -UNLOCK ALL CHARACTERS? [YES] OR [ . ] NO. THE NEXT INSTRUCTION IS PRESS PGM/E TO UNLOCK ALL OR . CLR TO CANCEL. I FOLLOWED ALL THE PROCEDURE AND NOT UNBLOCK THE CHANNELS OR BANKS. WHAT AM I MAKING WRONG? CAN SOME YOUNG EXPERT IN COMPUTER OR RADIO HELP ME TO UNLOCK THE SCANNER BEFORE I GIVE IT TO MY GREATSON? I UNDERSTAND ALMOST 100% WRITTING ENGLISH. I HAD PROBLEMS TO UNDERSTAND WITH SOME VIDEOS WITHOUT CLOSE CAPPTION, NO LETTERS.

I think your problem is that the scanner from the factory has NO frequencies programmed into the Scan Bank9s). When you try to scan you will get the very helpful (not) message "ALL LOCKED OUT".

The scanner has thre ways of scanning. "Scan Banks" , "Search" and "Services".

Scan Banks REQUIRES you to program frequencies in or have saved frequencies from the other scan types/methods!
Search has pre-defined frequency ranges split into 10 banks
Services is like Search but the frequency ranges are specific to the named service, e.g. Air Band (Aircraft)

You/your Grandson may want to try my free/charity ware Scan125 Control Program. It will certainly get you off base more quickly. The User Manual may also help clarify the scanner workings when read in conjunction with the Uniden owners manual.

Note! Using any program to program or control a scanner can/should be used IN ADDITION to getting to know how to manually program and operate your scanner. When you are out and about, e.g. Air Show then you will only have your scanner and fingers and knowledge to operate successfully.
