Brand new to all of this. I am listening to the fire dept locally. on my desk top. I hear the emerg tone go off, then nothing else even though I can see there was a transmission but it is blank. Am I doing something wrong?

What do you mean by emergency tone? An emergency button activation? If so, maybe theres nothing being picked up by the mic. At least in my monitoring instances 99% of the time when the emergency button is activated its an accidental activation, sometimes theres idle chat picked up by the mic, othertimes its silence

I think your right. by emerg tones I mean like the pager tones so the fd knows they have a call.

like it could be "tone only" dispatch or something like that. click it for more information.
