• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I just found an Icom Marine Radio - that is actually a Chinese one!

I've been using Icom business, marine and ham products for a VERY long time - 1980, I think. I've bought lots, and in recent years sold many too, using an account I have with another big UK radio firm. I'm not an official Icom dealer, and have been very aware of Icom's opinion on counterfeits and grey imports, and do understand their brand protection. I had a call from a potential customer asking if I could remove the MMSI number from his hardly used Icom IC-M91D marine radio. I have Icom software form IC-M25,35,36,37 and a few others. I bought th software for the 91 and said I'd do it.

He arrived today and instead of the usual Icom 3.5mm socket, there was a 4 pin connector. A VERY familiar 4 pin connector and the radio looked like a Recent RS-38M - a chinese radio I've been selling for a long time - reliable and decent quality, with GPS. The Icom software, with the recent cable let me reset the MMSI, and then I tried the recent software - exactly the same! So the Icom box says made in Japan. The recent box says made in China. The software is the same, the radio is the same. Two production lines in different countries making the same radio? Hmmmmmmmm There is nothing wrong with the Recent product, but Icom make big noises about how their products are quality, made to high standards. If you covered the Icom stickers, and removed the Icom branding from the start up screen, nobody would know. Confirmation enough to confirm suspicions I've had a for a few years. Ten mins on Google will show this to anyone! The net profit from this job is zero, as I had to buy the software - which I already had!
