I just got done replacing some diodes and resistors in the rectifier board and
the 2 large transistors on the back for the dc converter. I forgot to do 1
thing before plugging in the radio. I forgot to solder the pad between D4 and
D3 in the 600 volt circuit on the rectifier board. There was an ark over to R4 and burned out R4 and
R5, the load resistors for Q1 and Q2 the large dc converter transistors on the
back.
1st off the receive is still ok. I applied 12vdc from a gell cell battery to pin
1 of the chassis side of the Jones plug (without the Jones plug plugged in) and
the receiver is fine. Question. Will I have to replace Q1 and Q2 the dc
converter transistors again? And does anyone think there mite be any damage in
the transmit side on the 600 vdc line besides the obvious parts that need to be
replaced on the rectifier board. I am thinking of just replacing the hole
rectifier board parts and all. The board is badly scorched at the ark point. I
also need to know after this blunder is the radio still worth fixing or just
sell it for parts?
A bit of history on the radio. I got this 101e asis because someone was
conducting the tubes to hard ether by not tuning the plate and load right or the
SWR was to high. Ether way the finals and driver tubes were cooked, shorted out
and showed visible signs of way to much heat and it was blowing the 117 vac
fuze. I got it from the repair tech at the local cb radio shop.
By the way I already have brand new set of tubes wrapped up and sitting in a box waiting
