BCD325P2/BCD996P2: I need help with a Uniden BCD996P2 !!! Very frustrated.

I bought a Uniden BCD996P2 scanner from Facebook marketplace for my parents. I tried to set it up but having issues. I can follow general videos to program in channels, but all I get is static or nothing.

Please help. Very discouraged !!!!

Do you see any indication of a signal on the display?
Do any weather channels work?
Came from marketplace which may mean used. If used, is the programming from the previous owner still programmed into the scanner?

Please reply back with your location and/or agencies of interest so we can get eyes on the database to see who operates where & identify potential pitfalls which may hinder your scanning efforts (encryption, simulcast distortion, others). Specific info goes a long way here on the forums when asking for help

I programmed in a few channels by hand, conventional channels. I bought the scanner from marketplace - not brand new. I did not hear anything when I turned it on, so after a few youtube videos I learned how to reset the scanner by holding 9...2...scan...... at the same time. Then tried adding a few of my local channels.

Nothing.

I bought the scanner for my parents. A birthday gift they want ( p25 scanner ) I am currently frustrated and would more than appreciate help. I do know that could require hooking it up to a computer and things, which is further stressing me. Please forgive me if that comes across as venting, I just paid almost 300.00 for a scanner that does nothing when I turn it on.

Please answer the questions that were asked of you. If you can't receive weather, well, then that could mean the scanner is NG.

We need to know more information to be able to help. What is your parents' city, county, and state, and which systems and agencies do they want to monitor? We are not psychic.

First off I more than appreciate the responses, I am stressed as I need it working by Saturday. After resetting the scanner, I went to Program System and programmed in 3 local police channels. I do not hear weather on the scanner, could you tell me if that would be playing when the scanner has been reset or must the weather be programmed in ? ( please forgive me for coming across as confused, this is my first digital scanner purchase and I am reading this site to ease my overwhelm. )

Weather Scan The scanner starts scanning the preprogrammed weather frequencies and stops on the first good signal. If the signal is lost, the scanner resumes searching for another weather transmission. Note: You can also turn on weather scan by pressing and holding the WX button in scan or search modes.

Scroll to 'Weather Scan' press E/●. Press Scan to exit.

When in weather scan, do you see the display scrolling freqs in the 162 mhz range? If so, what is the squelch set at? And you do have the antenna hooked up and extended if its a telescoping type?

The only way that anybody here is going to be able to help you get it working is for you to go back and re-read all the responses you've gotten and answer the questions that have been asked. The answers you give to those questions are what is needed to help you any further.

There is free programming software available if you don't need DMR or NXDN. We don't know if you need DMR or NXDN unless you answer our questions. You will need to install a driver for the scanner to be able to communicate with it. If you let us know your parents' city, county, and state and what they want to monitor, we may be able to provide a file for programming the scanner. Without that information, there is nothing we can do to help.

In a lot of cases it is necessary to determine if what you are programming into the scanner is correct. Is it a trunked system? There’s also the question of encryption… probably not an issue but we won’t know until you answer the questions. Once the answers are known the people here will guide you through the process of manually programming your scanner. In the process we will also learn if the scanner is NG… hope not but you will get a definitive answer. And if you are told to do that factory reset again, just follow the instructions-let the guys here take you by the hand, so-to-speak. You will be scanning in short order or learn if the scanner needs to be returned.

Rhode Island. 02888. 02920 are the two main cities I want to hear. ( please forgive my responses being disorganized, I will respond to each one correctly and with a thank you. Currently frustrated is all, I thought the scanner would work upon purchase. ) Now I will most likely need a cord and download things to it which I have never done.
