Hi I seem to have a problem with this radio as it is an all band radio .

Running mobile , one HF Ant and one VHF / UHF ant . 2 ant connections .

Works great on all HF bands . Can not here any repeaters .Checked power out put , it is good so is the swr .

Radio is one year old ,I never used it on VHF thought I would connect it .
Anyone had this problem or might know what the problem may be .

Have you set the mode to FM for 144/440/. Have you put in the PL? How about the offset? The 7000 has the capability to transmit and receive in different frequencies? Just some thoughts,

Can you hear any local weather broadcast stations ? Tune across 162 Mhz with your
receiver in the FM mode.

I'm not familiar with that radio, but most HF/VHF/UHF radios that have more than one antenna connection will have an antenna A/B switch or button to choose what antenna port to use on a particular frequency.

Have you checked to verify that the radio is using the VHF/UHF antenna instead of the HF antenna?

RF/Sq setting?

Hi,
I have this radio, have you checked the RF/Squelch control position. The default setting is auto, which I use and for FM, I set the squelch about the 1 o'clock position. Also, do you get noise when you turn the squelch back (counter clockwise)? Check the setting in the setup menu to verify it. The two antenna positions are automatically selected by the radio depending on the operating band selected, no manual switching required. What does the signal meter indicate if anything? I hope you don't have a serious problem with the radio, I love mine and once I got used to the menus, it makes operating it a pleasure. Good luck.

N5DRM, thanks! I didn't think about those radios having dedicated antenna ports for VHF/UHF.

Another thought would be to check and see if you have the radio set up to decode CTCSS or DCS. As N5DRM mentioned, turning the squelch all the way down is a good test. If you can't hear static/white noise, check the PL tone settings.

If you still have the 7000 in your hands...

Did you try using a HT close to the rig? Even without an antenna connected you should still get some RF showing on the 7000's signal strength meter..?

Try this without any antennas connected and try on VHF and UHF.

PS. I presume you have the 7000 connected to a reliable 13.8vdc @ 25 amp power supply?
