Icom: IC-705 UK/EU Differences

I was watching some YouTube videos about the IC-705 and noticed that the UK version says "Digital" rather than "D-Star" on the front panel below the display.

Out of curiosity's sake: do these actually work on D-Star as we have it here in the US or is it some other mode?

Yes the UK versions are D Star, I’m not sure why they used digital but I think the 52-A is marked the same, the main difference is the TX on two meters is 144.00-146.00.

I have heard that the difference in the way these radios are marked for different regions has something to do with trademark laws.
