I use N3FJP logging software on my 7300 and wanted to be able to work remotely also so I bought the RS-BA1 program.
Trouble is I can't run them both off the com port, contacted Icom support and they said to get a ct17 cord to run from the remote jack to the computer and run them that way.
Bought the cable and it installed the drivers for the cable but I got no clue how to proceed and can't get into icom chat 😠 anyone willing to help me configure this?

After what I paid for it I hate to just set the program on a shelf if I can help it.

Yep... I went through the same grief. Figured RS-BA1 was ICOM software and best thing to use for my ICOM radio. Found out the hard way there was something better.

Not sure why Icom support would suggest a CT-17. There's very little that you can do with a CT-17 that you can't do with the USB port in the radio.

Take a look at Win4Icom (Win4IcomSuite for Icom Radios - Win4IcomSuite for Icom Radios). You can do remote control with it and the author has built in "hooks" for operating with other software.

Maybe try using the USB/comm port for one program, and CI-V control for the other program?

Not sure if this would work or not; it's been so long since I've looked at the back of my 7300 I can't remember if it has both USB and CAT ports or not.

EDIT: Just looked at a diagram; 7300 does have both CI-V and USB ports. Might be worth a try. If you don't have one, a CI-V interface is pretty easy to build.

This does work. I use the USB for RS-BA1, FL-Digi, JT-X, (one of these programs at a time) you get CI-V and audio in/out on this connector. The CT-17 CI-V is of course more limited (no audio connection) , but it will send the radio data to N3FJP's logger.

Could you pm me a step by step of how to set it up? I'm lost!

I can at some point, but it's really dependent on how your PC assigns the com ports. Identifying COM ports is the first step, then make the settings for each piece of software. I use a cheap ebay cable for the CI-V interface.. it's serial, so I use a usb to serial for that connection.

If it helps my the computer shows a com port and another port that the ct17 cable is attached at. Then I get lost

Best thing to do is unplug the CT-17 cable from your PC. Open your device manager and plug in your CT-17 (assuming it's USB) once the device is seen by windows you will see what COM port was issued to it. Take note of that. That will be the COM port you need to use for N3FJP. I will have look this afternoon and see if I had to make any changes on the Connector settings in the radio for that connection. If you had RS-BA1 working before you won't need to make any changes for that.

And don't forget, if you unplug a comm device from USB and plug it into a different USB port, Windoze will assign a different COM port number. Very annoying; for awhile I used a powered hub so I could leave USB-Serial converters and other stuff plugged in, but finally graduated to a Digi Edgeport/8, which has 8 different COM ports from one USB port. Oh, so handy.

Can't help with RS-BA1, and don't know if N3FJP can be configured with it. I ditched RS-BA1 and have had much better results with the Win4ICOM Suite software from VA2FSQ Win4IcomSuite for Icom Radios - Win4IcomSuite for Icom Radios which is listed as working with N3FJP.
Why can't friggin software makers make stuff usable for idiots like me? (Click this button and the program will configure itself were it needs to be?
I'm getting so flustered trying to follow instructions that are outdated and getting me nowhere!)
Ok I went the route win4icom since everyone said its so easy to setup downloaded the com0com setup virtual port pair 7&8 what the heck do I do now? I'm so confused 🤯

Did you look at Tom's video about how to set up Win4Icom with 3rd party software?

If you have problems with Win4Icom, I suggest you follow Tom's support instructions. Support - Win4IcomSuite for Icom Radios
