Icom: IC-9700: NEEDS ASSISTANCE

I am directing this to any 9700 owners who use it for repeater use.
I can get the radio to do the 600khz up/down no problem.
I am having a hell of a time with putting in pl's.
the advanced manual reads: to go to the function "box" and press it.It should reveal a tone box. (( ((I get to the function tab by pressing "settings"))The problem is no matter where I go there is no tone box/indicators ;-( I am sure its operator error on my part--I am hoping someone can walk be through this either here or my phone 570-954=7990

Press FUNCTION, then press TONE , then press TONE or TSQ, etc, then after the menu reverts back to the main screen, press and hold TONE until the screen displays the tone freq and DTCS boxs so you can change settings or start a tone scan. Press a tone or DTCS box to light it up then the main tuning knob will change the tone freq, etc. There are other menu settings where you have to hold down a button or even a front panel knob to get into sub menus.
