I want to power the lights on a watt meter via the Icom 7610. I read in the manual the 7610 can power a meter with 13vdc out but I do not know how to do this myself. Help. I followed the manual using a 7 pin din but I only get 4vdc out of the back of the 7610. What am I doing wrong? Has anyone else done this? Is it impossible?

You've got ACC1 (an 8 pin) and ACC2 (a 7 pin) socket.

On both sockets, pin 7 provides 13.8V (at a maximum of 1A) and pin 2 is ground. Get an appropriate plug then solder a wire to pin 7 and to pin 2. On the other end of the wires, install whatever plug that fits your meter.

How/where are you measuring 4 Volts?

On my 7610 I take 12V from the tuner connector to power a Dow Key relay to automatically switch an antenna to the radio whenever its powered on. It should provide up to 1A of current and you can get the 4 pin connector from many sources.

Here is what happens with my brand new 7610.
I think there is something wrong with it.
Using ACC 1 using pin 2 and 7.
I do not get 13vdc.
I get 8vdc.
Why?
One time I got 4vdc out of the radio.
ACC 2
Same thing.
The lights on the meter do not light.
It needs 12vdc as it says on the back of it.
Trying the meter with its own p.s. the lights light all OK.
The 7610 refuses to put out 13vdc on either ACC 1 or 2.
Is there some configuration in the radio that I have missed?
Do I have a brand new boat anchor?
BTW, after the VOM shows 8vdc for about 5 seconds, then, ACC power out quits.
BTW, can I hook up a foot switch off one of these ACC's?
I assume pins 2 and 3 for this?
I haven't tried it yet fearing damage to the radio which might already be.
What do you think I am doing wrong?

According to page 13-2 in the Basic Manual, ACC 1 pin 7 and ACC 2 pin 7 are 13.8 volts DC with a maximum current of 1 amp. Also, ACC 1 pin 2 and ACC 2 pin 2 are ground. If you aren't getting 13.8 volts DC with your VOM connected across those pins, there may be something wrong with your radio or there may be something wrong with your VOM.

Sounds to me like your VOM is overloading the output of the radio. Tell us about the VOM you are using. Do you have access to another VOM or DMM that you can try?

Yes. When ACC 1 pin 3 or ACC 2 pin 3 pulled to ground, i.e. connected to pin 2, the radio should transmit the same as pressing the PTT on the microphone.

Hello and good morning everyone. Yes, I understand the functions of ACC1 & 2.
Thanks you for that education.
Like you, I did not trust my trusty analog VOM and so I purchased a new Sperry Digital Auto Ranging VOM.
With it and pin 7, I get 8vdc on Acc1 and 0vdc off Acc2 pin 7.
Now I notice I have lost the ability to transmit voice with my trusty microphone.
I guess I got a lemon radio.
No, not true.
I just love the 7610 and it was working very properly until I crossed two wires on one of the din connectors and blew the fuse on the circuit board. I quickly replaced it with the one supplied by Icom.
So, this whole thing is my fault.
I guess I must send the radio back for repairs.
Live and Learn.
But I never seem to learn.

P.S. I did a "Full Reset" on the radio hoping to bring it back alive.
This idea did not work for me.
I truly damaged the radio when I crossed the wires.
I don't even recall what the two wires were but the radio went dead.
After replacing the circuit board fuse the radio came back on but it is damaged.
Unless you know of another fuse or some magic, I am distressed.
I guess the radio goes back to Ham Radio Outlet in Milwaukee.
Be advised, it's not their fault nor is it Icom's.
It's little ol' 11 fingers me.

I've done something similar in the past and was able to fix it. Open the radio and inspect the circuit board traces leading to the fuse you replaced. In my case a tiny trace was burnt and open and I jumped it with some small insulated wire and everything was good after that.

Hey, that sounds like a real good fix but I could not find anything out of place when I searched around on the board near the fuse and away. I used a bright light and eye loupe but I could not find the good fix. Darn it. I'm just gonna live without the ACC 1 & 2. I was going to use them, one for a foot switch (I can run a wire from the microphone on/off) and the other to power some external vu meter lights. I'll just leave the meter on and powered by a wall wart. When the lights burn out in it, it will be time for another vu meter anyway. Thank you very much for the quick answer.
