• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

awesome..thanks. trying to build cable to connect to a Motorola dispatch console.

You would be better off pulling signals from the 11-pin J6 internal connector. Get 7-DISC and 3-COR then use an external box like a Midians TTC-2 or CPI-Comm TTP to create an adjustable balanced 600 ohm input/output. The TTP's let you use 2-wire or 4-wire and can also take EIA standard audio tones from a console to transmit via 11-PTT and 9-audio-IN (if that is part of the project). You can also use a JPS PTG-10, with or without pilot tone.

Icom offers a OPC617 which fits J6 inside the radio and terminates with an external DB-9 on a pigtail.

For a long time the F121's (and sucessors) have been the basis for Icom's voting receivers. Typical Icom; excellent sensitivity and rejection.

Tha actual J6 connector is B11B-ZR-SM3-TF JST Sales America Inc | 455-1296-2-ND | DigiKey. Or, you can (carefully) solder fine hookup wire direct to the J6 pins. I buy 11-pin mating plugs from Midians.com. It is the exact same connector they use for their UD-1B board, and they put 10" wires on for you.

J6:
(Top end closer to C255 & C256)
1- VCC+ (switched 12VDC, 50mA max)
2- DIM (input - program for display dimmer or external ignition sense)
3- HORN (output - program COR low on received signal, >220 ohm pull-up resistor to VCC required for TTP's)
4- GND
5- AFO (low-level gated, variable level)
6- GND
7- DISC (low-level ungated, constant level)
8- GND
9- IN (audio)
10- GND
11- PTT (low to TX)
(Bottom end closer to AF amp IC8 and front board)

thanks for the detailed suggestion which is about 5 levels above my skill level...lol. I'll pass it on to the technician working on the project. I was trying to get the pinout for him to save him a little research time.

You can sill use J6 AFO by itself without changing any CP's, but remember that it is unbalanced and may not be directly connectable with some 600-ohm inputs, and follows the volume control. You can set AFMIN to the correct level by trial and error, then make sure the knob is turned all the way down and stays there.

The advantage to using an external controller is that the final output IS 600-ohm balanced and directly connectable to a console's input card at a -10db audio level (the standard). Most controllers listen to the DISC which is always sending audio at a constant audio level, then use a COR signal from the radio to turn it on and off as needed so the console doesn't get the constant static.
