If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I currently own a ICOM f3161t model with a DTMF key pad. My question for the radio is if you can enable the radio to do front panel programming using the DTMF key pad. Does anyone know how to do this? I searched the internet for a bit and could not locate anything.

Thanks,

My understanding is the F3161T will do FPP. However, I could be wrong.

You would have to contact the Authorized Icom LMR Dealer where you bought the radio, and might have to sweet talk them into helping you set your radio to allow FPP.

If the dealer was an Authorized dealer, he should be able to contact his Rep at Icom, and get the information.

Hi Andy, Have you tried using the FPP, because as far as I know you can Edit existing Channels info, but you cannot Add or Delete Channels, Please Correct me if I'm Wrong?

The F3161 is indeed capable of FPP, along with most other new model Icoms, even mobiles.

You can change the RX and TX freq, RX and TX tone, bandwith and channel name. You can also use the tactical zone feature to copy existing channels into the tactical zone (zone 128), edit them and delete them. So in a way you can add/delete channels, just not in your existing zone.

To the OP, try searching google for "Icom maker reserved". That should get you going in the right direction.

I would advise nobody enter Maker Reserve, you can very easily turn your radio into a paperweight - if you don't know what you are doing. I have had countless people call me after finding this "feature" with dead radios asking me to help. The parameters in that mode are very individual to your radio - there are no "default settings" in there. If you don't write back to the radio properly you will "zero out" all of the settings and your radio will not work.
