• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Hello all, I recently purchased an IC-4161DT and was wondering if there was anyone who had a basic code plug I could use / modify. I am using CS-F3160/F5060 software and I hope that is the correct software.

Any pointers would be appreciated.

Opening the Cloning Software should give you a blank cloning profile. If modifying and writing that to the radio doesn't work, just read from the radio and modify that cloning profile.

That said, there used to be a really good website that offered an illustrated step-by-step guide on how to program the 3161/4161 series. That's where I learned how to program mine. Unfortunately, the website is now offline.

Here is an archived version. The photos are gone, but the text is there:

Hope this helps.

Thanks, this is definitely a start in the right direction. Much appreciated.

I would really like a code plug to try to make sure I am doing it correctly.

Well, I now have a OPC-966U and looking for the proper drivers that will allow Win10 to recognize the cable and assign a port. The supplied driver CD (xp, Win7, etc...) does not cover work for Win10.

Any help or direction.

Your OPC cable needs to be the newer version. It should be a OPC-966U "B" model, this is identifiable by the letter "B" printed on the OPC sticker. If it's the older version it will not have it, and will only work with Windows 7 and older. It will not work with windows 10.

That's a good question, you probably can get a Windows 7 machine fairly cheap, or partition your hard drive if you can get a copy of 7. I am not sure why Icom didn't change the model number designation for windows 10 as many people purchase the cable only to not have it work and wonder why.

Do you have a link?
I don't think it is sold on Amazon anymore haha. You know how that stuff comes and goes. Just look up "Icom F3161 programming cable" on amazon and find a decently priced one OR go to The Antenna Farm. I have e had decent luck with both as sources for ICOM programming goodies.

Haha, thanks I have one on the way. I used the "Sundely" in the search. That being said, I have an Icom cable that I managed to get working through a virtualbox I have on my Mac OS. Not a Mac guy but it worked so I am using it....well I was gonna use it. It appears that the cloning software is requiring the radio password to even read the radio. The seller on eBay said this was a new radio. It looks new, but definitely has a programming load already in the radio. Can't do anything unless I find the password or maybe to a factory reset at the radio.

Any help with that would be nice.

Ask the previous owner for the programming password. If they acquired the radio legitimately, they should have it.

Yea...he has a few for sale on eBay. Not sure if he is the legit owner since these radios have channels like "DHS", "COOP", "SIP Security", etc...

But yes, I have sent him a note asking for the PW.

Sounds right to me.

If a password can't be furnished and the seller did not disclose that the radio was password protected, I would ask for my money back. Just me though. May I ask what your plans are for this radio? NXDN ham use I presume? I have the Icom F3161DS, F3261DT, and F5061D - all VHF - for ham and railroad monitoring. There are no VHF NXDN repeaters in my area, so all of my NXDN activities are simplex with my friends.

Yes, my intent is for Ham use.

As for the previous owner...I've sent him a note asking for the password and that without it this radio is dead to me and/or could cost more to get it unlocked. Especially since the add said "new". Sorta upset about it but, this is kind of normal for this "hobby"...always something to keep me busy.
