Yes, there are problems with some displays. Icom has downplayed it, but it is definitely a known issue. I have never had issues with mine.

Ray Novak is IcomAmerica's amateur radio sales executive. As you can see from his statement, Icom has a repair program for replacing the IC-7610 display and has extended the warranty for the display.
I've had my 7610 for 2-3 years. I do not have a problem with the display on my radio.

Good job cleaning up my mess (double post etc) thanks... guy purchased one, display went bad, Icom replaced (transceiver) display went bad again on the new one - seemed kind of strange...
My neighbor is one of the two Icom authorized repair centers. He says it's not a common problem. The 7610 is what he uses for his personal rig.
