Whats the purpose of this jack, I searched the manual and the web but can not find a answer. It's a 3 conductor 2.5mm connector.

well if I understand correctly you need the UT-118 to operate the data jack therefore it must be something related to HAM usage (d-star).

You have to connect the ground to pin 5 and RXD to pin 2 of a db-9

All this information can be found at page 10 of the Manuel (r 2500)

Take a look here DStar Comms Pro - Communication software for D-STAR Enabled ICOM Radios not sure if it will work on a receiver...

Thanks for the input. I do not have the UT-118.

Page 10 of the Icom R2500 manual is about Windows Driver installation in the manual (Instruction ManuaI) that I have.

The Data Jack is used to connect a GPS unt. The PCR can send NMEA messages to the GPS when the propper transmissions are received by the D-Star Module (UT-118).
It can show the received user's location, altitude, speed and direction of travel...

The data jack, AKA packet port is for several things but not D-Star specific or GPS specific. Amongst other things it's a 10.7Mhz IF so you can use it as a discriminator tap for programs such as Unitrunker and so forth. It can also be used for numerous other data related programs like ACARSD.

The 2500 has a "Specific" "Data Jack" that is connected to the UT-118 (when installed) :)
The Data Jack is NOT Also Known As the packet port on the 2500...

I should also point out another correction so that PCR owners do not get confused:
The Packet Out provides a "Discriminator Tap" at the audio range (khz), NOT a 10.7mhz I.F. tap...
