I'd like to know if anyone has done this too.

I have a spare Collins mechanical filter but am too scared to just attach the center pin to ground, and don't know which is the input / output, or if it makes a difference.

What I can gather is that to do it right, one should get the input/output impedance right, rather than just tacking the filter in. Of course you have to let the R75 know about the new filter in the menus.

I wonder if W4RT might be of any help? I know they have Rockwell filter kits for the Icom 718 transceiver (and more). Might be worth a look anyway to get some ideas:

I'm too chicken to just pop my spare in and give it a go...

filter Install into R75...

Not sure about a Mechanical Filter and how you would adapt it or if it would even work in the Icom R-75, as they look way different then the Ceramic Filter I just installed into my Icom R-75....

I just Installed a Murata 3Khz 455Khz Filter into my Icom R-75 and it went fine.

I have a video link you can see at ... YouTube - ICOM R-75. 3khz 455khz filter install

The center pins that you described are both ground and the outer pins are input and output.

So, if you are brave and want to try it, I would solder wires to both pins marked ground and put the ends into J882 and J883 as those are grounds for the 455Khz filters. Then Solder wires to the non marked pins as either one can be used as input or output and put the other ends of those wires into J881 and J884.

Here are some pics below for you...of my filter install in case you want to install a Murata 3Khz Filter into the 455Khz slot.

You can get the filter on Ebay for $34.95, which isn't too bad for a filter that would cost you $189.99 or more from Icom and it's just as good if not better.

The Murata filter is an excellent substitute for the Icom 3.3Khz Filter which is part number fl-257.

Here is the Ebay link for you for the Murata 3Khz 455Khz Filter....

Here are some pics for you of my filter install.

It's very easy.... Just install it exactly as I did and you will be fine.
