Receiver Test Data
In this test, the icom r8500 and aor 5000 are ranked tenth to last and second to last, both of which are well-known receivers and are very interesting
That's Rob Sherwood's site and he is one of the worlds leading engineers on receiver testing. One of the other experts Adam Farson is another expert and his testing usually agrees very closely with Rob's data.
The ratings are also based on adjacent channel interference and in and out of band strong signal interference handling. Not having those kind of issues from your antenna signal, or you use external filters, will make both AOR500 and IC-R8500 to be excellent receivers for the average user.
BTW - I fixed the "squeaky wheel" tuning knob issue that other folks have had. I took the knob off and just kinda fiddled with it, cleaned it up really well, looked for any witness marks and made sure it was fully seated. Tightened it (snug but NOT tight) and its fine now. No annoying squeak at 3am that drives my dogs nuts.
