ICOM V8 mod question

Afternoon all. Some buddies and I have been "arguing" for a few weeks as to if we can flash the software on an ICOM V8 with new software with the end result being: transmitting an electronic serial number (ESN) (written into the firmware) before voice is transmitted to the distant receiver and of course see that ESN on a piece of software (i.e. hyperterm or monitoring package). I am sure there is a solution out there already but we haven't yet found it. Can anyone offer a suggestion as to where I may want to look? Any suggestions are always welcome. Thanks in advance!

I have not heard of any "firmware" that can do this. The Icom IC-V82 with a D-Star module can accomplish most of what you are describing. The D-Star module costs about $200.00 and is why I don't have a few.
