My ID51A quits charging with three different chargers after about 30 minutes whether fully charged or not. It will charge completely with a buddies charger, but not the three different ones I've purchased. All have been the BC-167SA which is the same model as my buddies but I guess the ones I'm buying are newer versions as they are shaped different and have a different milli-amp output. Any thoughts as I've lost my original?

Have you called Ray at Icom to find out how to get a charger that will , or tried a different battery on your rig , you can also buy the BC 202 fast charger I think it is that will charge them faster.

Don't know Ray and it isn't the battery because a buddies charger works fine. I'm still troubleshooting it. Just looking for tips. I will try to call Icom again soon. Thank you for your reply.

The information I am finding is the BC-167SA is a trickle NiMH wall charger. The 51 uses Li-ion batteries spec'ed at 7.4 volts. The 167 is for batteries spec'ed at 7.2 and different chemistry. This is likely the source of your problem. I don't know why your buddies work, but in theory it shouldn't.

Let me take a moment to recant my previous post. I was looking at information from HRO and Universal-Radio and drew the wrong conclusion.

I have a 51 bought years ago. I used the included slow charger only a couple of time, then replaced it with the rapid charger option.

I went back and found my original slow charger. It is a 167 so I am at a loss as to why you are having a problem.

Does the particular charger have a wall wart power supply or a regular plug? If a wall wart, is it the right one with correct voltage?

Or, does it have a 120/240 switch thats in 240 for instance?
